What Tent Solution do You Recommend for My 2018 Ford F-150 with a Leer 180XR Camper Shell?

Question:
Hi, Can you recommend a roof top for a Leer 180XR? Should I install on the camper shell or install on my truck cab? I would like to put a roof tent in the future.

I have a great solution for you. When considering a tent for your 2018 Ford F-150, the absolute safest route that will give you the highest weight capacity is by removing the camper shell from your vehicle and using a ladder rack like the Thule Xsporter Pro Mid Overland Truck Bed Rack - Aluminum # TH34RR. The Leer 180XR Fiberglass shell only has a maximum weight capacity of 220 pounds. Given the weight of the tent system and the weight of the bodies in the tent, you will most likely be over that capacity. Also, when considering mounting a roof-top tent on your naked roof, the clamps that come along with any roof-rack solution do not have the same strength if your roof had raised or flush rails (without considering the fact if your 2018 F-150's roof can hold the weight you wish to mount).
With the Thule Xsporter Pro Mid Overland Truck Bed Rack - Aluminum # TH34RR, you will receive 600 pounds of weight capacity and gives you the peace of mind of not having to worry about a collapsing roof or camper shell. If you need a tent, I recommend the Thule Tepui Foothill Rooftop Tent - 2 Person - 400 lbs - Agave Green # TH37HJ. The Foothill comes with telescopic internal frame poles allow for easy, one-person setup and breakdown.
