Question:

Hi, I need to get a roof rack for my new 2022 Ram 1500 so I can get my surf ski kayak to and from the beach. The truck has a short bed and will not be able to safely carry the kayak due to how long it is. I would prefer not to use one of those ladder racks as this will be the only thing I need to carry. I like Thule products and will be getting their Hull-A-Port Aero Kayak Carrier TH849000 to go with the set up you recommend. Thanks

To get the Thule Hull-A-Port Aero Kayak Carrier # TH849000 attached to your 2022 Ram 1500, I recommend going with a Thule roof rack set up. I grew up using a lot of Thule products so I am also a fan of their products and tend to recommend them a lot.

With that said, you will need the WingBar Evo Crossbars # TH711520, Evo Clamp Feet # TH710501, and the Fit Kit # TH145199 to complete this set up. This will give you 60" of usable crossbar space and the # TH849000 will fit perfectly.

From experience, I know how long a surf-ski can be, so I do recommend two more parts to carry yours adequately. The Erickson Big Bed Load Extender # EM07600-07601 can be installed in a 2" hitch and can be adjusted from 55" to 64" tall. This will allow you to support the back of your surf-ski a lot better. I do also recommend getting the Thule Pads for Square Crossbars # TH843000 for the crossbar on this as it is just a metal bar with no padding. This way it will be nice and protected.
