Question:
Question about your Rhino Rack for a 2014 Subaru Impreza non WRX with no existing rails or crossbars. I have the OEM crossbars with no rails and would like to add a Rooftop tent. I read the forums and they told me to reach out to some experts and was referred to this team here. Would the OEM Crossbars work? if not would the Rhino Rack on your page work for the Rooftop. Thank you in advanced for your help. Much appreciated

Each option will work. When you are using a roof top tent you have to be aware of the dynamic weight limit of your roof rack. That is the weight limit when your vehicle is moving, The static weight limit is when your vehicle is stationary. Your factory roof rack has a dynamic weight limit that can support a rooftop tent up to 165 lbs. Typically an aftermarket rack will have stronger crossbars than a factory rack, but the ladder in a rooftop tent is load bearing to help support some of that weight. If it were me, I would still go with the aftermarket rack for the stronger crossbars and the peace of mind. The only type of aftermarket roof rack that you will not be able to use with your roof top tent is the one that clamps on the frame of your vehicle. If you have raised rails, flush rails, gutter mounts, or fixed point roof rack system, you should be fine. Your 2014 Subaru Impreza is a fixed point rack system. If you decide to go with the Rhino roof rack on your vehicle it will consist of the following parts:
Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 46" Long - Qty 2, part # RRVA118B-2,
Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Legs for Vortex Aero Crossbars - Naked Roofs or Fixed Mounting Points - Qty 4, part # RRRLKVA
Custom DK Fit Kit for 4 Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Roof Rack Legs - Naked Roof, part # DK258
The roof rack is rated for 165 lbs. That is the dynamic weight, which is the weight you can carry on your roof while your car is moving. It will included the weight of the roof rack, approximately 15 lbs. When you are camping, the weight on your vehicle's roof is static weight. Static weight is higher than dynamic weight AND the ladder in your rooftop ten is designed to be weight bearing. As I said before, you will have peace of mind when you are roof top camping with this setup.
