Question:

I have a 2020 Ram 2500 Short Bed with the Ram Boxes. I am considering a fifth wheel trailer, but really do not want to use a sliding fifth wheel hitch when I have a perfect BandW gooseneck hitch in the bed. Will the Gen Y adapter work without contacting the Ram Boxes? I cant find any information or photos of this being done. Since the Ram boxes do take up space and make the bed 50inch wide, I am concerned that when the trailer is turned, the adapter or pin box may hit the side of the bed. Thanks

Using the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel-Gooseneck Pin Box # 325-GH-8045 will result in clearance issues because of the Rambox. You also do not want to use a sliding hitch for the same reason. In order to make this work, you will need a fixed 5th wheel hitch, as well as a rotating pin box.

Unfortunately, you will also be unable to use a B&W Companion like the # BWRVK3500-5W since this is not compatible with a rotating pin box. Although not at all ideal, this leaves you with removing your current gooseneck hitch and installing above bed rails like the # BWRVK2602. Once these are installed, you will be able to use a hitch like the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 18,000 lbs # BWRVK3255.

Once that is done, you will need a rotating pin box like the Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret - 20,000 lbs # RP34FR. Like the Gen-Y, these are designed to fit a specific bolt pattern so you will need to know what pin box your 5th wheel trailer has once you get it in order to choose the correct replacement.
