The Rampage Minivan Center Console - 29" Long x 9" Wide x 14" Tall - Charcoal # RA39923 only weighs about 15-lbs, so I wouldn't think it's heavy enough to stay in place without fastening it to the vehicle floor in some manner. With that said, it's inside the vehicle so I wouldn't say that it shifting around poses a risk during normal travel and you'd likely be able to survive without it being secured if you didn't want to. You may want to consider using some velcro strips on the bottom if you're installing it in a carpeted area of the vehicle, or some double sided tape on a hard plastic floor-just to give it some stability so it doesn't move around when going through turns and such.
