There are many factors that can go into selecting the correct electric which, if you want to learn more then be sure to check out the article below. That said, to simplify things we recommend using a 2:1 ratio which means the winch will need to be rated for half the weight of the boat. If the trailer has rollers or a short winch distance you can get away with a lower rated winch but 2:1 is a good rule of thumb.
