Is Weight Capacity of Draw Tite hitch # DT84GR the Vehicle Capacity or Hitch Capacity
Published 09/28/2021 >
Question:
Is the 2,000 lb. trailer weight rating based on the hitch assembly or the vehicle? The ID.4 1st Edition and AWD have stronger brakes and are rated for 2,200 and 2,700 lb., respectively, using the factory 1.25inch receiver. If the factory 1.25inch were replaced with is 2, would the same trailer weight ratings apply, or would they be limited to 2,000 lb.?

Helpful Expert Reply:
The 2,000 lb trailer weight capacity of the Draw Tite hitch part # DT84GR is the weight capacity of the hitch by itself and does not factor in the capacity of the vehicle. It actually is rated independently and in situations like this you have to go by the lowest rated component in the tow setup as the overall capacity.
