Brakes Feel Jerky After Draw-Tite Activator IV Trailer Brake Controller Install
Published 07/14/2021 >
Question:
I had this installed yesterday and the trailer seems to tow jerky now. Granted I only drove from the trailer shop to my home, about two miles at 30mps with only one traffic light. Also, when I start my truck the display shows the settings but while Im driving down the road the display is blank. Is that normal? However, I do notice that stopped is much better than before. I have a 2016 Ram 1500 Laramie that did not does not have a factory brake controller. Towing a 4K lb loaded travel trailer.

In regards to the Draw-Tite Activator IV Trailer Brake Controller part # 5504, the setup instructions which come with the controller show to test drive the truck with trailer attached after install. If the brakes are jerky then you'll simply need to turn down the gain on the controller.
I have attached these instructions for you below as well, please review them. There are screen display examples listed here as well.
