Recommended Replacement Winch for Fulton 542 Series Winch on Small Boat Trailer

Question:

Need to replace old Fulton 542 3.5inch x 5inch base on trailer holding a 73 15foot Sidewinder + Evinrude motor 1,160 lbs. Would like a Fulton winch that uses a strap. Thanks.

I recommend using the Fulton High-Performance 2-Speed Trailer Winch - Rope or Strap - 2,000 lbs # F142403, which would be a comparable replacement for your Fulton 542 series winch and can be used with either wire rope or a strap. For a strap I recommend using the Fulton Heavy-Duty Winch Strap with Hook - 20' x 2" - 4,000 lbs # FWS20HD0200, which is a 2" wide strap.

This winch will work well on your 15 foot Sidewinder boat and can mount to the trailer arm; it may require drilling new holes if the old ones don't match up. You'll want to use Grade 8 bolts to mount the winch, which can be sourced at your local hardware store.
