Will the Thule Motion XT XL # TH629806 Allow Me to Open My Hatch on My 2015 Honda Pilot?

Question:

I found the attached photo and review on Amazon, and this is exactly my vehicle - 2015 Honda Pilot with factory rails and cross bars. The Thule specs that you have posted say that I need 51 1/4inch front clearance, but when I measure on my vehicle, I have 48inch back to the rear gate hinge in the open position see attached photo. I wanted the XXL for max cargo capacity, so I am hoping that the XL will fit. Also, how accurate is your estimatedinch arrival date? I need this box for a trip in early August. I live a few hours away, so in a pinch I could drive to your location to pick it up if you have it on site and it is not shipping directly from the manufacturer. Thanks!

I have a solution for you. Unfortunately, the 51-1/2 inches of length from the center of the front crossbar to the line where the roof and hatch meet require you to have a longer measurement and not less (your 48-inch measurement). With that being said, the Thule Motion XT XL # TH629806 will not allow you to fully open your rear hatch.

A great alternative box for you that will allow you to fully open your rear hatch with your 48-inch measurement is the Thule Motion XT L Rooftop Cargo Box - 16 cu ft - Titan Glossy # TH629707. The Thule Motion XT L only requires a minimum of of 47-1/2 inches from the center of your front crossbar to the line where the roof/hatch meet.
