Question:

Without the extension, it says it measures 49” in length. My question is does this mean from the usable part behind the wind screen, or is that from the front edge of the wind screen to the back. It looks like there is a few inches of lost space behind the wind faring because of the angle. What is the length of the usable space behind the wind faring is my question. Thanks!

The 49" length of the Thule Canyon XT # TH859XT is measured as the overall length of the cargo basket. The front edge of the basket where the fairing sits does tilt inward and limit what you can put in that space, but not as much as you'd think. The fairing on the Canyon is roughly 5" tall, and you'll have roughly the front 4" long by 3" tall of the basket with the fairing hanging over.

You can also get the longer Thule Canyon XT # TH859XT-8591XT to give yourself 20" extra length on your basket.
