Curt T-Connector for 2013 Chrysler 200 Limited 4dr Sedan W/V6 Engine and S Package

Question:

A Chrysler dealer claims that their Chrysler 200 2012 and 2013 cars have IDENTICAL wiring systems. However, they claim that damage to the computer will result if I use any other than THEIR factory trailer wiring. THEIR system retails @ roughly $155, in addition to then requiring an additional charge of $125 to reset the computer. I notice that THEIR system has no module, and is NOT seperately powered 12 V. My question is, can Curt part number C56134 designed for the 2012 Chrysler 200 be safely used with NO resulting damage to the 2013 Chrysler electrical system. I suspect that it can, but need your expert opinion. It goes without saying what I suspect Chrysler Corps motive for wanting me to buy THEIR wiring system is!!! THANK YOU!!

It looks like you're on to Mopar's little game! Chrysler is no different than any of the other car manufacturers in wanting you to purchase parts from them, rather than something available in the aftermarket that's much more reasonably priced.

The recommended Curt trailer wiring harness for your vehicle is the # C56211 wiring harness. The C56134 harness you mentioned has been discontinued and is no longer available.

The design of the C56211 actually draws the voltage to power the trailer lamps directly from the battery, instead of pulling it through the tail light circuits, which helps to protect and isolate the computer and electrical system of the vehicle from any short circuits that might occur in the trailer wiring. The wiring harness has been tested on your vehicle, and has found to be safe.
