Question:
Do you think the rack could support a canoe on a g5? and if so where could I tie it down?

If your 2010 Pontiac G5 is a sedan then the highest capacity Rhino-Rack roof rack is going to be 110 pounds like with the following rack:
Aero style bars # RRVA118B-2
Feet # RRRLKVA
Fit kit # DK181
However, you will need to determine the capacity of the vehicle roof. This information may be in the owners manual. You will need to go by the lowest rated component, whether that be the roof or the rack. If the canoe weighs less than the lowest rated item then you can carry a canoe.
You would also need a canoe carrier. I recommend the Rightline Gear foam block carrier, # RL100K10. In fact, if you wanted to, you could use this carrier even without a roof rack. But having a roof rack does have other advantages such as mounting bike racks or a cargo carrier.
The canoe carrier comes with straps to secure the bow and stern. To make the tie down points more accessible on the vehicle, I recommend usihood loops # MPG308. basically you close the cylinder end under the hood and trunk and you are left with a handy loop to tie off to. I linked a video review of them for you.
