Question:
Hi. I have a 2005 Ford Explorer and I just find Out that I’ve been doing something very wrong. Using a 1 1/4 to 2’’ adapter and carrying my 2012 KTM XCW 300 with an aluminum bike carrier ... I’m glad nothing happened .. I’m searching for a new 2’’ hitch and I want to ask If I should get the Curt # C13550 or the Draw-Tite # 75132 . They look exactly the same . Any recommendation ? The 75132 has more tong capacity when using a weigh distribution that its not my case because I’m just using the bike carrier Also I would like to know if you have a IV class hitch option for this car. And also I would like to know what’s your opinion on the dual motorcycle carriers... are they safe ? Thanks

I am glad to hear nothing bad happened while carrying your dirt bike carrier with a 1-1/4" to 2" adapter, but you are correct that you were more than likely quite a bit over the tongue weight rating of the hitch since an adapter reduces the capacities of the hitch by 50%.
You are correct that both the Curt # C13550 and Draw-Tite # 75132 are both confirmed to fit your 2005 Ford Explorer, and they both have the same tongue weight rating of 500lbs and trailer weight rating of 5000lbs.
I do however recommend going with the Curt # C13550 since in our experience the power coated finish they use is the strongest on the market and will stay looking great for years to come.
At this time there is not a Class IV Trailer Hitch Receiver confirmed to fit your vehicle.
While we do not offer any dual motorcycle carriers, I do not see anything wrong with using one as long as you are staying under the tongue weight rating of your trailer hitch receiver.
I included a video of the # C13550 being installed on a similar 2003 Ford Explorer for you to take a look at.
