Comparing Ladder Rack Crossbar Height Options for a 2005 Chevy Colorado

Updated 04/27/2021 | Published 04/26/2021

Question:

I have a 2005 colorado 5 ft bed with a cab height of 20 inches. I would like to find or build a rack that is approx. 21 inches high but with a crossbar system that mimics the Leitner active cargo system rack. It allows the rear crossbar to slide forward towards the cab on a bar that runs front to rear. This Ericksen rack looks like it could be modified to do this by cutting approx. 3-4 inches off the bottom of the uprights and then attaching a pipe with 90degree elbows attached on each end. What do you think? Thinking outside the box here. Thanks

I have some great ladder rack options for a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado. The universal options which are usually the more cost effective ones sit higher above the cab as they can be used on full size trucks as well with taller cabs. The custom options which are designed for mid-size trucks are more expensive but sit closer to the truck cab. The Erickson Truck Bed Ladder Rack part # EM07706 is a good example of a universal ladder rack and the T-Rac Pro2 Truck Bed Ladder Rack for Compact Pickups part # TH37001XT is a good example of a custom ladder rack.

There are unfortunately no sliding ladder rack options for this vehicle and I cannot advise on making modifications to any of our existing options.
