Question:
Hello, I have a 2016 Nissan NV 2500. I would like to install a cargo tray to carry a generator behind the truck. I do not have a hitch. Can you recommend what products I would need? I need the tray and everything needed to install the tray and hitch. Thank you very much.

You will need a trailer hitch receiver and a hitch-mounted cargo carrier for your generator. The trailer hitch receiver that I recommend for your 2016 Nissan NV 2500 is Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver Class IV - 2" # 75715. When comparing this to other receivers, this one has the highest tongue weight rating which is 1,125lbs; this will be more than enough to accommodate a cargo carrier and generator. I attached an installation video which shows the simple bolt-in process for this hitch receiver, which requires to modifications or drilling.
For a cargo carrier I would look into 19x47 Curt Cargo Carrier for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Steel # C18110 which is a budget-friendly option. This may work for you depending on the dimensions and weight of your generator. This particular cargo carrier has inside dimensions of 47-11/16" long, 19-1/2" wide, and 2-9/16" deep. The weight capacity is 300lbs.
If you have a larger generator, especially a heavy one with wheels, then I recommend Flint Hill Goods 29" x 49" Carrier w/ 60" Ramp - 2" Hitch - 500 lbs # FHG69ZR. This has a 500lb weight capacity and has a convenient ramp that makes it easy to load heavy items that have wheels, such as a rolling generator.
Lastly, you can use ratchet straps such as Erickson Re-Tractable Ratchet Straps w/ Push Button Releases - 1" x 10' - 400 lbs - Qty 2 # EM34415 to secure your load. I have attached demonstration videos for you to check out.
