Question:
I have a Thule mountaineer 2001 model and want the easiest mounting system. What do you recommend? Are there clamps that would work.

Expert Reply:
Well, the Thule Mountaineer is discontinued but it uses U bolts to secure itself down. It would be easiest to use similar bolts because you wouldn't have to modify the box to get the cargo box secured. The U bolt that will work measures 3-3/4" x 3-1/2" overall. Is 3-1/2" wide x 3-1/8" tall internal with M7 x 1.25 threads. The part is also discontinued. but you can use the CE Smith U-Bolt # CE15283GA.
A clamp like the Quick Grip # TH05738 won't work unless you're wanting to modify your cargo box, but they are the easiest to use.
