Troubleshooting Parking Lights Not Working With Curt Wiring Harness Installed On 2013 Kia Sportage
Updated 02/25/2021 | Published 02/22/2021 >
Question:
Im looking for help..i have a 2013 kia sportage with curt trailer wiring installed and the other day i discovered that the vehicles left side parking lights in the front and rear were not working, through process of elimination i turned my attention to the trailer wiring. I unplugged the wiring harness from the left taillight and the parking lights worked again. Do i have a bad unit? The fuse at the battery is not blown. Any help pinpointing the problem would be great..

I am sorry to hear you are having an issue with the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56251 installed on your 2013 Kia Sportage.
Since only one function was not working with the harness installed, I recommend double checking that all of the pins in the connector that plug into to the factory driver side connector are not bent causing a the connection to not be complete. Also make sure that the connector clicks in to the factory connector.
If all of the pins are straight and not bent and the connector is plugged in correctly move down to the connector that plugs in on the driver side of the vehicle underneath the bumper. Make sure the connector is plugged in tightly.
Lastly if the issue is still not resolved check that the white ground wire that is secured with a self tapping screw inside of the vehicle has not loosened and is connected securely to clean rust free metal.
If these steps do not fix the issue let me know and I will recommend more in-depth troubleshooting steps.
I included a video of the # C56251 being installed for reference.
