Question:

Hi I have the curt C13381 hitch installed on my 2019 VW Tiguan. I will be towing a 5x8 uhaul cargo trailer and need an appropriate hitch receiver with ball mount. I believe I am going to need some rise as the curt 2” receiver sits pretty low and with the added weight in the trailer about 1000 lbs will also be a factor. Can you make some recommendations on what I should purchase.

For a 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan, I'd recommend the Curt Class III hitch, part # C13381. When we installed this hitch on a 2019 Tiguan, we found that the top inside edge of the receiver tube sat 11-1/2 inches high.

U-Haul trailer couplers sit at about 18 inches above the pavement when the trailer is level. To bring the trailer ball within an inch or two of level, I'd recommend going with a ball mount that has a 6 inch rise like the Curt # C45100. You'll also need a # PC3 hitch pin.

U-Haul typically uses adjustable couplers, so a 2 inch ball like # 63845 would work well. For a trailer wiring harness, use part # C56403.
