A good starting point for your brake controller installation is to review the two attached FAQ articles concerning brake controllers and their wiring and installation. These will provide the information you need to determine parts required and how to install them.
For newer vehicles we can often supply a manufacturer-specific wiring harness to connect your brake controller to your vehicle brake control port, but we do not have a custom wiring harness specified for your 1995 GMC van.
Depending on whether your trailer wiring uses a 6-way or 7-way connector, you will also need a Brake Controller Installation Kit, either part # ETBC6 or # ETBC7. The install kit includes all of the parts necessary to connect a brake controller to your vehicle. It is worth noting the functions of the controller, which are assigned to specific color wires: white = ground, black is 12V in, red is signal in from brake switch and blue is brake signal out to trailer brakes.
I have also included a video showing controller installation in a different vehicle that should prove helpful.
