What size cargo netting would you recommend to cover the top?

I'd recommend the SportRack cargo net, part # SR0035. At 60 x 20 inches, it's a little longer than you'd actually need, but you can run the net down both ends of the carrier to stretch it tight. This would be the best fitting alternative for the Carpod # M2205 you'd looked at.
Another alternative would be a cargo bag like # M2202 which is specially designed to fit the Carpod carrier. I've linked to product videos for the carrier and the bag I mentioned above.
