I have a 2020 ram 1500 classic that's a crew cab. what do you think are the best nerf bars for this truck? I'd like something that looks like it has steps instead of just a bar?

The best nerf bars for your 2020 Ram 1500 Classic Crew Cab and the ones I recommend for your truck are the Westin HDX Xtreme Nerf Bars # 56-23565.
There are a couple of reasons I think these are the best, starting with their look. These bars look like they are just part of your truck as opposed to an add-on, and mesh perfectly. They also have the step like you wanted, with a step pad that is structured and grooved to offer you sure footing with a unique design.
The Westin HDX Xtreme Nerf Bars # 56-23565 are cab-length and will simply bolt onto your 2020 Ram 1500 Classic, making them easy to install as well. I have added a link to the instructions for you to take a look at.
