It sounds like you are experiencing chucking which is that back and forth movement of the king pin in the trailer hitch. While there is a little play between the jaws of the hitch and the king pin, excessive play could indicate that the jaw is not closed all the way around the king pin. It could also mean that you are what is called high hitched where the king pin is not down far enough to be properly secured by the jaw.
I have included a picture that I have captured from the instructions for the Elite hitches and also linked the instructions. The picture shows how the trailer should be connected to the hitch.
Also make sure that the hitch is properly lubricated according to the instructions and you can also use a lube plate, # RP83001. You can also check your king pin for excessive wear. If it is worn down even a little, that can cause the problem and you should have the king pin replaced.
If you have checked everything and still get chucking what you can do is replace the pin box on the trailer with a air ride model. To determine if there is a fit for your 2012 Montana I would need to know the pin box make and model number. I have linked an FAQ article that will help.
