Question:
The head leaks at the hose connenction can the washer be the problem or should head be replaced?

I think in this case it's more likely that the seal is broken or cracked or the valve has gone bad, so your best bet is to replace the handle with the Replacement Handle # PF281007 since there are not replacement parts available to correct this.
