Coupler Replacement Compatibility Moving Up in Capacity
Question:
I currently have a trailer with a 3500lb tongue that is approximately 10.5 long. Im looking to replace it with one of your products which is 10,000lb and 14 long. Is this OK to replace with a longer, heavier-duty coupler? Thanks!

Expert Reply:
Using a longer and heavier duty coupler is fine, but your trailer capacity will still be limited by the weakest component. So even if you have the # DM12717 coupler, the total trailer capacity may still be 3,500 lbs based on the axle, springs, hubs, frame, etc.
