Compatibility of Furrion AC Unit with Airstream Furnace

Updated 05/01/2020 | Published 04/30/2020

Question:

Will this unit work for a 1974 Airstream Sovereign? The Sovereign currently has a Carrier a/c and separate furnace. The furnace is controlled by a manual wall thermostat. A/C is manually controlled on the distribution box. How does this Furrion thermostat interact with the Airstream heater? Some of the instructions say the compressor runs even with the furnace? Why would that happen? Would the thermostat not control the furnace independent of the compressor? It looks like delivery time is several weeks out. Is that normal or can it be done quicker? Several reviews indicate the unit itself is great but packaging for shipping is inferior and units often arrive damaged. Can attention be given to that to improve the chances of arriving without damage?

The Furrion Chill HE RV Air Conditioner System - Single Zone - 13,500 Btu - LED - White # FR85PV will work the same way as your current Carrier AC unit. The furnace being a separate unit will operate as it was designed with its separate thermostat and the AC unit will function with its separate thermostat. It is rare you'd be using both at the same time, but if you did the separate units would be competing based on their individual thermostats.

I personally would want the separate thermostats, so I was crystal clear on what unit was the issue if troubleshooting is ever required.

When the unit is shipped from our warehouse extra care is given. If it is shipped from the manufacturer, then we can't control that packaging.
