Capacity of Erickson Axle Strap # 58505

Question:
Is the capacity rating given to Axle Straps when theyre in their straight position or when theyre in their in the usual cradle or basket configuration? In other words, is the capacity of these straps roughly 10,000# straight and 20,000# doubled, or 5,000# straight and 10,000# doubled? I have no intentions of coming close to maxing them out, I just want to make sure I have things straight. Thanks.

The listed capacity is for when the straps are used when looped over the axle. Although the capacity mentioned is 10,000 lbs, the safe working load limit is 3300 lbs. The safe capacity for the axle strap is 3300 lbs, but the break strength is tested at 10000 lbs.
In other words, each strap is rated at 3300 lbs, but are capable of withstanding the occasional strain and shock of hitting a pothole that would place additional stress on the strap. Because you want that cushion there, exceeding the working load limit is not recommended.
The Working Load Limit (WLL) is typically 1/3 of the stated capacity of any strap.
