Trailer Hitch Receiver Compatible with 2019 GMC Canyon Step Bumper

Question:

I am 64 with mild disability. I just purchased a 2019 GMC Canyon. It does have a molded foot step on each end of the rear bumper. My goal is to tow a 13’ aluminum boat with dual batteries and motors. Weight wise the Class III specs state 800/8000 which is more than my truck can carry over kill. Ideally I would like the Class III but am concerned my molded steps won’t allow a Class III hitch bolt pattern to fit. Can you please suggest to me which item you offer that will be able to bolt onto my truck?

For your 2019 GMC Canyon, the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e98909 will be a great choice. The mounting location won't interfere with your bumper steps and the capacities of hitches are often stronger than the trucks they are mounted on simply because they are independently tested. You will be restricted to the capacity of your truck which will tow the boat you referenced without issue.

I attached a video of the 2020 Colorado which has the same bumper as yours to see the installation.

If you don't have the factory 7-way wiring, then I recommend the Hopkins Multi-Tow 7-Way Blade and 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector - Chevrolet/GMC # HM11141144.

You will also need a ball mount and pin/clip to complete your towing setup. I've attached an article and linked the page to your options to assist.
