Question:

Hello, I have to replace the connector on my 98 F150 and Im confused on the wiring. I took a pic of the wires on truck and have a picture of a diagram of the connector I dont have a gray wire. The connector I bought is a Hopkins 48480. The old one was a pollak 12-705. I really hope you can help me out cause this is confusing to me. Thanks

Wiring can be difficult to understand sometimes and it took me a bit to get comfortable with my knowledge of wiring as well. The good news is that you're not alone, and the even better news is that the whole wiring thing is easier than it looks/sounds! All you have to do is ignore the color of the wiring and test for functions using a circuit tester like part # PTW2979.

You can either label each of your wires as you test it or connect it directly to your Hopkins Endurance Socket # HM48480 using the linked instructions or the attached diagram. Just ignore the different colors used in the pictures and focus on the functions and you'll be fine. To test for functions you'll need to start your 1998 Ford F-250 and then run through everything (stop, turn, running lights, etc...) and either you or a helper can be at the back using the tester.
