Tonneau Cover for Improved Fuel Economy on 2018 Ford F-250

Published 02/07/2020

Question:

I have a 2018 Ford F250 with the 6.2 gas engine with a standard automatic transmissin. Is this a true tuner were you can actually change the settings on my pickup? Will it actually increase my torque and fuel mileage by returning either or in towing or not towing? I get terrible fuel mileage both ways and looking to try and increase that if possible wondering if this will help and or will I really notice a change to justify the investment? Thanks

I checked with our performance chip manufacturers, SuperChips and Edge, and the only options for a tuner on the 2018 Ford F-250 are for the 6.7L diesel engine, and not the 6.2L gas engine you have. That said, if you are looking to improve fuel economy, you can absolutely still do so with a tonneau cover for your truck.

These can have a wide range in price, but they will absolutely give you better fuel economy due having less drag. Wind resistance will be less because the cover will ensure wind goes over your bed instead of the wind pushing against your tailgate, which makes your truck work harder. The correct fitting tonneau cover will depend on the size of your bed, and I'll give you some options from less expensive to more expensive for your 2018 Ford F-250:

- Budget-Friendly: TruXedo TruXport Soft, Roll-Up Tonneau Cover # TX279101 (6-3/4' bed) or # TX279601 (8' bed)

- Mid-Tier Price: Extang Solid Fold 2.0 Hard Tonneau Cover - Folding # EX83486 (6-3/4' bed) or # EX83488 (8' bed)

- Premium: Pace Edwards UltraGroove Retractable Hard Tonneau Cover # 311-KRFA18A44 (6-3/4' bed) or # 311-KRFA19A45 (8' bed)

I have added links to video reviews of these tonneau covers, as well as a link to our entire selection of tonneaus that fit your 2018 Ford F-250 Super Duty.
