Question:
Hi, I have a 2005 escape with V6 motor. It has a 2inch reciever on it and I wanted to hook up the wiring to tow a small john boat. I looked on your site and found a wiring kit model # 40455 and ordered it. It Just came in yesterday. I went out to put it on this morning and instead of having a small, round plug under the drivers side tail light, it has a retangular 10 pin connector. the round male connector with the kit obviously will not plut in to it, but I cant find another wiring kit that looks like it will work. Can you offer a suggestion?

The # 40455 will only work if your vehicle is equipped with the factory equipped tow package.
If the plug is present, it can be found on the drivers side of the vehicle, between the tow hook and the bumper as shown in the video I have linked you to. The plug is difficult to see once a hitch is installed, it is pinned to a bracket up behind the bumper. The connector is white in color, and will need to be pulled away from the bracket in order to access it.
If you do not have the plug shown in the video, your Escape was not equipped with the tow package, and you would need to use the wiring harness # 118426 you referenced. I have linked you to the install instructions and an install video showing the # 118426 being installed. The 118426 will require a power wire be ran to the battery. I have linked you to an FAQ article showing how this is done.
