Question:

I intend to use this system to lift tires up into the rafters of my garage. Can the 14inch distance from the upper hang loop to the ratchet/pulley be shortened? I have limited space above the rafter and the 14inch length will limit how high I can lift the tire.

The chrome pulley on the ProGrip Hunter's Hoist with Pulley and Rope Lock - 20' Long x 3/8" Diameter part # 317-404780 is fixed and does not move so the 14-1/2" between the pulley and the top hook cannot be shortened. There will be that 14-1/2" of distance that you cannot lift the tire with the hoist.

You may consider a Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Winch w/ Remote and Pulley Block, AC Powered - 1,200 lb # DL25727 which allow you lift the tires all the way up to the garage's cross members. The length of the cable for the hoist is 50'.
