Question:

What ladder rack and tonneau cover recommendation do you have for my 2020 F-150 with the 5.5 foot bed? I want something that is pretty universal and that will accommodate the most outdoor activities (both work and play) without sacrificing functionality.

You have definitely come to the right place as we have exactly what you're asking about for your 2020 Ford F-150 with the 5-1/2' bed!

Since your concern is both about work and play, and it sounds like you'll be carrying around a wide variety of equipment I highly recommend using the RetraxPRO XR Hard Tonneau Cover w/ Trax Rails # RTT-80373 for a tonneau cover because it is a hard, sliding cover that can be locked anywhere along the rails which is great if you need to have a portion of the back opened up for your load.

Then for a ladder rack you can use the Yakima OverHaul HD # Y01151-5855 which has a 500 lb load rating and can be moved along the Trax Rails of the RetraxPRO XR at any point in time since you'll be using the adapter kit. The OverHaul HD is not only compatible with this tonneau cover but it also has multiple points where you can load extra equipment (see attached link) plus the height can be adjusted depending on what you plan on using the ladder rack for that day.
