The magnet of the Kat's Heaters Handi-Heat Magnetic Heater # KH1155 is strong enough that you can leave it installed on an oil pan. You'd just need to make sure the power cable is secure safely away from any moving or hot parts.
This also has a thermostat built into it to shut it off at 275 degrees so you can leave it plugged too and it won't overheat anything.
