Brake Controller Install - 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Causing Traction Control/Hill Assist Warning Lights
Published 10/26/2019 >
Question:
Hello, I installed the Draw Tite 5535 brake controller on to my 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. I made sure everything was connected correctly and installed the brown wire of the brake switch to the controller’s red cable. When finally plugged in to the battery everything looked normal on the brake controller as well as in the car. But when I pressed the brake pedal on the subaru my traction controll and hill assist warning lights turned on. I unplugged the brake controller and the lights turned off. What can be the issue?

I suspect you're using the incorrect wire from the brake switch. According to the information I've found, the circuit you're wanting to tap the red brake controller wire into is a white/brown striped wire, not a solid brown. Once you tap the red controller wire into that circuit, everything should work fine for you. The wire you're looking for should show power only with the brake pedal pressed.
