Question:

I have a tear trailer with fixed square bars spaced at 40inch apart. This basket says the bars have to be at least 20, but is 40inch too much?

I have an option for you but 40" would be too much crossbar spread because the Inno Shaper 100 Roof Cargo Basket part # IN569 is only 46-1/2" long.

I recommend Rhino-Rack XTray Pro Cargo Basket part # RRRMCB03 which is 58-1/4" long x 41" wide but will fit a crossbar spread 25-1/2" - 43-1/4" so it will fit your cross bar spread as long as the bars are round, square, aero or elliptical and no larger than 3-1/2" wide x 1-1/4" tall. This is the most cost effective option that will fit your crossbar spread. I have attached a video for your reference.
