Recommended Trailer Hitch for Lance 2185 Trailer

Question:
I need to tow a small 400 # trailer behind my Lance 2185 in order to carry a 200# generator and some extra gas and water cans. It will have a tongue weight of about 100 #. What is my best bet for a receiver. Lance offers one, but it allows only 135# which is too small a margin for my taste. The receiver might also be used to carry a rack with perhaps 300 # . I dont want to invalidate the warranty.

The frame-mounted Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13703 is your best option for adding a trailer hitch to your Lance 2185 trailer. This model is designed specifically for trailers like this and it can fit frame widths of 22 to 72 inches. It features a tongue weight capacity of 350 pounds, giving you a healthy safety margin for your small trailer. The hitch can either be bolted to the frame or welded on for a no-drill application.
I have attached a sample install video that you can take a look at as well.
As far as the trailer's warranty is concerned I simply recommend contacting Lance directly to see if they have any restrictions or guidelines when it comes to adding an aftermarket hitch. This typically doesn't void any kind of warranty but it's really a case by case basis with the manufacturers. You might also verify the trailer's tongue weight/towing capacity as well to be sure it can handle the weight of the second trailer.

Hi Chris. I came across this post while looking for a hitch for my Lance 1995 trailer. The C frame is 68.5 inches but none of the existing holes will line up with this unit and I really prefer not to drill more holes in my frame. Also, the length of frame between the rear trailer bumper and cross member is 7 inches. Curious if there are other options (e.g., angle brackets) that various manufactures offer to work around these constraints. Thanks, Craig
