How Much Ground Clearance Does the Curt Hitch C11524 For a 2017 Mini Clubman Provide

Question:

My wife has a 2017 Mini Cooper S Clubman with all wheel drive. Can you give us an idea how much clearance there will be after installation of your hitch?

I spoke with Curt about the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11524 for your 2017 Mini Clubman S and they informed me that the receiver tube sits right up underneath the bumper. The distance from the bottom of the bumper to the bottom of the receiver tube is 2". That said, I don't have any distances from the ground because this can vary by trim level and how much of a load is in the vehicle.

We have a 2018 Mini Cooper Clubman S with foot activated sensor to open the trunk doors. Can a hitch work without the sensor being affected that opens the doors? Also do you have to make any alterations or does it just bolt on? We want this hitch to use our bike carrier.

For your 2018 Mini Clubman S we have one hitch available with the Curt # C11524. We haven't had a chance to physically install/test this hitch, but in most cases on vehicles with the hatch sensor, an added hitch receiver just means you have to wiggle your foot around to either side to activate it. It's a bolt-on hitch (no drilling) but it will require some trimming to the heat shield. I linked the install manual below that shows this in more detail.
