Can the Hinged Ball Socket Mechanism On A Bulldog Trailer Coupler Be Repaired
Updated 06/13/2019 | Published 06/12/2019 >
Question:
Can the bull dog hinge coupler be repaired without replacing the whole hitch? Can it be welded back on? It hinges at the front of the hitch where the ball hooks up. It is the part that clamps closed onto the ball. It got broke off and it looks like there was a pin put in it when it was built and then welded on the underside to keep it from falling out. I have a 2inch bull dog hitch that I could take the part from if it would be possible to do if the original piece cant be welded back on. The hitch is class 4 on a CandM horse trailer 3 horse slant and I am pretty sure it is a 7000 pound hitch. Dont know if this has happened before. It sure looks like it could be done but I am not sure.

I absolutely do not recommend trying to repair your trailer coupler as this could be very dangerous to both you and others on the road. The hinged ball socket mechanism that is on your trailer coupler is not repairable. Therefore, your only option is to replace the entire coupler for which we have the Bulldog Collar-Lok Coupler part # BD028287 that uses a 2" hitch ball and has a 7,000 lb weight capacity.
