Question:

Hello, I have been thinking about running a truck camper with a 7 pin trailer socket on top of a goose neck trailer which also uses a 7 pin trailer socket. What can I do in order to get both the trailer and camper 7 pins connected into the truck to provide the camper and trailer with power simultaneously?

All you need to add to your truck to give you a second active 7-way is a harness like Demco's # DM8555002. This plugs in behind the existing 7-way socket and gives you a second 10-foot harness and 7-way vehicle-type socket. This way both your goose neck trailer and your camper will have identical connection points with all power and lighting signals. You can use this as long as your current 7-way has a round U.S. Car connector like part # C56229 plugged in to the back of the socket.

The Hopkins part # HM48470 that you referenced could do the same thing but would require hard wiring and additional parts like 7-way wire # DW04914-1 and quick-splice connectors # SWC501915-1 and since it would require splicing into your existing wiring, rather than just plugging into the connector, it may be less reliable in the long run.

I recommend using dielectric grease # 11755 when making the connection at the 7-way. This grease helps block out water and dirt from getting into those connections.
