Question:

Our Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo does not have any metal rails on the currently installed roof racks. Is there an aftermarket replacement to allow the mounting of load bearing roof racks without clamping to the door frame?

All of the roof racks we carry that fit your 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee with either the small black plastic rails or no rails at all use clamps around the doors.

For your Jeep I recommend the Rhino Rack kit with 54 inch aero crossbars. The crossbars come in either black, part # RRVA137B-2, or silver, part # RRVA137S-2. They're aluminum bars that last a long time and are quiet because of the aerodynamic design. They work with most roof accessories that either clamp around them or fit into the T-slots.

You also need the feet, part # RRRLKVA, and fit kit that includes the clamps, part # DK234. Additionally, you can add metal locks, part # RRVA-LEC4, to upgrade the bars to help deter theft of any accessories in the T-slots.

I've linked a video showing a square bar Rhino Rack being installed on a 2012 Grand Cherokee. The bars are different but the installation is the same since the Jeep has the plastic roof racks and uses the same fit kit.
