Can Thule Hull-a-port and Malone Carrier with Load Assist be Used on 2019 Subaru Outback
Question:
Well Winter is over and I did not give up on my quest from below to use my Thule Hullaport Pro XT for one Kayak and a Lift Assist Rack for second Kayak. Since Thule Hullavator is just not going to fit on 2019 Outback With the Hallaport Pro XT, I did some more research and came across Malone Telos Load Assist XL MPG35-XL which you sell packaged with Malone Downloader MPG-14MD. I don’t know the Malone products. Could I fit the Malone Downloader and the Thule Hullaport XT Pro on the integral fold out cross bars of my 2019 Subaru Outback? Also I read some reviews that indicated that the Malone does not fit the outback’s oval bars very well and that the straps that come with the Malone do not have buckle covers. I see you can buy separately Malone straps with buckle covers. Thanks

Expert Reply:
The Thule Hull-A-Port XT TH848 should fit perfectly with the Malone DownLoader Kayak Carrier and TelosXL Load Assist # MPG114MD-351XL on your 2019 Subaru Outback with the stowable rack system. While I was not able to find the exact length of your crossbars, the Hull-a-Port takes up 20 inches and the DownLoader takes up 17 inches so you can check the length of your bars to be certain but I'm confident they are plenty long enough to fit both carriers.
In regards to fit, the DownLoader is considered universal and as with most products that are a universal fit that clamp on, it may not be as perfectly level as a carrier that fits in T-slots, for example. That said, we have not heard of any specific issues with this carrier being a poor fit.
You were correct about the straps not having covers for the buckles with the Malone DownLoader Kayak Carrier and TelosXL Load Assist # MPG114MD-351XL, and that you can get ones with buckle protectors, the 12 foot Malone Cam Buckle Load Straps with Buckle Protectors # MPG307-12 or the same straps that are 15 feet in length at part # MPG307-15.
I have added links to video reviews for you to check out.
