Question:

I am looking for a winch for my sail boat swing keel. The DL 14993 because of its finish is desirable in a salt water application. I currently have a rusted 1200a. My problem is the handle on the 14993 is over 9 inches long while my present handle is 7 inches. Can I take the hanle off of the existing and put it on a 14993? They look similar.

The Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch w/ Automatic Brake - TUFFPLATE Finish - Freewheel - 1,200 lbs # DL14993 will not allow just any handle to fit. It is designed with the integrated brake and threading on the handle to only allow for this handle or a longer one.

You may want to consider the Fulton Single Speed Trailer Winch - 7" Long Handle - 20' Strap - Zinc - 1,100 lbs # F142102 which doesn't have all the same winch features but has the handle length you are seeking.
