Hello, I have 2017 Ford f350 8 foot bed. I have purchased and use the stromberg Carlson 4000 series 5th wheel locking tailgate I bought from etrailer. My question is: will I be able to use this cover when not towing the fifth wheel with the stromberg tailgate? Will it be secure and will it lock?

The BAK Revolver X2 Hard Tonneau Cover part # BAK39331 which is a fit for your 2017 Ford F-350 installs independently of the tailgate nor does one need to be present in order to use it. I took a look at the Stromberg Carlson 4000 Series 5th Wheel Louvered Tailgate part # VG-15-4000 and it does not appear to extend up past the bed rails therefore, I don't believe you will have any issues.

I took a look through the reviews for the Stromberg Carlson 4000 Series 5th Wheel Louvered Tailgate and several of them are using theirs with similar tonneau covers so I again don't think you will have anything to worry about but just keep in mind it's not going to have as nice of a fit as it would when used with the factory tailgate.

I have attached a photo of this tailgate used with a similar tonneau cover for you as well.
