Can a Cadillac CTS-V Tow a Trailer

Updated 03/28/2019 | Published 03/26/2019

Question:

Is there a 2inch trailer hitch that can be used for a sedan and is it safe to haul not just trailers but a small sleeper style RV? It is an AWD, 8 cylinder, Cadillac CTS a bigger/stronger engine than alot of SUVs but is the frame stronger? Thanks!

I do have an option for you depending on what year your Cadillac CTS-V is but they do not offer a trailer hitch with a 2" receiver tube for this vehicle. As you mentioned, power is not an issue on the V model but other factors such as frame strength come into play when trailer manufacturers decide if they will offer a trailer hitch with a 2" receiver tube for the vehicle.

Now, with that being said a 2" receiver tube is not required to tow a trailer but you will need to abide by the towing capacity of the vehicle/trailer hitch, whichever is lower. For example, if you have a 2008-2013 Cadillac CTS-V you can use the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11307 which has a 2,000 lb weight capacity but if the vehicle has a towing capacity that is lower than this then that is what you will need to abide by.

In order to complete your towing setup you will also need trailer wiring harness, the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 56043 and a ball mount, the Curt Drawbar part # C45522.
