I looked up the online version of the owner's manual for your 2009 Ford Taurus X and on page 248 it states that your vehicle is rated to tow a trailer weighing up to 2,000 lbs with a max tongue weight of 200 lbs. Even if you install the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75299 which has a trailer rating of 3,500 lbs and tongue weight of 350 lbs you will be limited by the least rated component which is your Taurus.
If you have a small trailer to tow then you also need the recommended T-One Wiring Kit # 118447 and a ball mount kit. I have attached our selection of ball mounts as well as a helpful article about ball mounts to help you choose the correct one for your application.
