Question:

I have a 2014 Ram 1500 Quad Cab. I am thinking of putting a roof rack on it. I have seen your recommendations for which part to order to do so but I havent seen the weight limitations or perhaps, I missed it. Im thinking that Id like to put a roof top tent on it but am wondering if the rack will support it and the subsequent weight of say 2 children. Thank you.

We have 2-person roof rack tents like the Yakima SkyRise part # Y07436 which are designed to fit roof racks like we have for your 2014 Ram 1500 quad cab. This tent requires you install a roof rack with at least a 165 lb weight capacity so for your vehicle I'd recommend the Rhino Rack Roof rack part numbers # RRVA150B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK043 as it fits your vehicle, has the needed capacity, is easy to install, and has aero shaped bars for minimal wind noise.

When used with a rack that has a 165 lb capacity the SkyRise will have up to a 400 lb capacity. The reason for the increase in capacity is the 165 lb figure is for weight that's on the vehicle as it's traveling down the road and 400 lbs is when (hopefully obviously) you wouldn't be moving the vehicle. So it's a static weight capacity.
