The Prodigy P2 part # 90885 is designed to put 12 volts back onto the red wire when the manual override lever is slid so that the brake lights of the vehicle and trailer apply. You can test to see if your controller is doing this by using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 on the red wire of the controller when you slide the lever. If so, then the issue is the wiring of your truck. If not, it's an issue with the controller.
