Since you already have an aftermarket 7-way connector on your 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee the easiest way is using our # 5506 brake controller wiring kit. The kit includes the wiring to go from the 7-way to the brake controller inside the Jeep. The circuit breakers you need are also included.
Brake controllers use a standard wire color: black for power to the Jeep's battery, white for ground, blue is connected to the 7-way, and red is connected to the cold side of the stop light switch. The cold side only shows power when the brake pedal is being pressed. You need a circuit tester, like part # PTW2993, to find the correct wire on the Jeep. It'll be near the top of the brake pedal arm.
I've linked a video from when we installed a 7-way and brake controller wiring on a Liberty. The process is basically the same since it's a universal installation and it probably has more than what you need but should still be helpful. I've also linked some help articles for you.
Once you have the fully functioning 7-way you can add a brake controller in your Jeep. I recommend the Primus IQ, part # TK90160, for a good quality cost effective proportional controller. A proportional controller engages the trailer's brakes with the same intensity as the brakes in your Jeep which is much more efficient than with a time delayed controller.
