Installation of Camco RV Replacement Plumbing Vent # 40033

Question:
This vent comes with 6 self tapping screws - can I use these self tapping screws on a fiberglass trailer? I have a 2003 Casita Spirit Deluxe 17foot fiberglass trailer that needs the gray and black tank vents replaced and they are riveted on thru the fiberglass roof instead of screwed on. Will the self tapping screws crack or hurt the fiberglass if used instead of new rivets? Also will the included putty be enough to seal the vents to the roof or do I need to use additional Dicor Lap Sealant to cover the screw tops and to prevent water from entering under the vent? Thanks

Expert Reply:
The Camco RV Replacement Plumbing Vent w/ Putty and Screws - Polar White # CAM40033 will work on your fiberglass trailer. The screws can work without issue as long as you don't overtighten them. Fiberglass can crack if under too much pressure, which is most likely the reason they used rivets to begin with. This cover can be installed with rivets and the putty will seal around the screws and between the roof and flange so no other sealant is necessary.
